Horses and Georgia’s Lake Country

Lake Oconee three counties – Greene, Morgan, and Putnam – have a diverse horse community.

Morgan County

Hard Labor Creek State Park, on the western border of Morgan County, features 22 miles of trails, stables, cabins, and campsites. After the Fox Farm, on the edge of historic Madison, is a showcase boarding and lesson facility with FEI Dressage trainer Adam Latowska. Chelford Farm in Buckhead offers a Roger Haller designed beginner cross country course, schooling horse trials, and lessons/clinics/camps with FEI Advanced Eventer Johanna Dufort. Southern Cross Ranch just south of Madison is a working dude ranch. Godfrey’s Warehouse in downtown Madison is a sixth generation family business supplying custom feeds, seed and fertilizing services, tack and farm supplies.

Greene County

WATER’S EDGE, across the water from Reynold’s Plantation and its Ritz Carlton resort, is a planned equestrian lakefront community, featuring a 20 stall boarding and lesson barn. BRIAR ROSE is a golf and equestrian community just minutes from the lake.

In addition, you’ll find active 4-H clubs and riding clubs in each county.
